There’s brilliance found across the world… this is short note to lament the loss of a brilliant man, but open a new conversation with the country of his birth. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, the Hungarian author of the book “Flow” which is a study of happiness and what brings us happiness died yesterday. His work brings great insight to what brings us happiness. At the same time, today, Tech Ranch, in conjunction with the Consulate of Hungary in Houston, is launching the Texas-Hungary Venture Bridge, where we’ll be bridging science, tech, entrepreneurship, and innovation between these two regions. I am sorry for the loss of Mihaly, for I have been inspired by his work, and in fact, its Hungarians like himself and Gabor Mate that make me keenly interested in learning more about Hungary (including I’ll be in Budapest in late November this year). I look forward to being a bridge to this type of brilliance and insight, and hopefully bring a little bit of Austin connections and values into the conversation as we build this bridge going forward.
Watch the TED Talk about “Flow, the Secret to Happiness” below from Mihaly to gain some insight. Check out the link about today’s event. Let me know if you have ideas for us, on building this bridge or another one. And may he rest in peace, he is indeed one of the reasons that I found Hungary intriguing, to set out and build this (and other) bridges.
